Opportunities for Business at night Beyond Open Sydney

This week I was invited to speak about the opportunities for business in the Night Time Economy (NTE) at Bondi Junction

The event titled ‘After Dark at the Junction’ and jointly hosted by Bondi Chamber and Waverley Council featured the strategy being developed for activation at Bondi Junction after dark.

untitled$15.1 Billion was generated in 2009 in the NTE, estimated now at $19 Billion

This was Bondi Junction on 5th October 2016 at 9.20pm a massive untapped opportunity.

I spoke about my experience working at City of Sydney, directly with business operators transforming Sydney at night through various activations including the Small Bars program, the Laneways and the Finegrain programs as well as my work on Food Trucks and Open Sydney which explored diversification options for the Night Time Economy (NTE). Retail is changing faster than anytime in history. Customers have more choice than ever.

After dark is potentially one of the last simple wins.

There are many opportunities for business operators in Waverley Local Government Area, Sydney and across the whole of NSW in the Night Time Economy. There are simple things that you can do right now.

As businesses evolve, their business models change.

They need to constantly adapt to their complex and ever changing environment, as well as the continued evolving sophistication of their market.

After all, imagine a newspaper… go on… a real one made of paper, with no digital presence, stop laughing.

Seems ridiculous doesn’t it?

Well done Bulletin Bar.

As it’s five years since the opening of a bar in a small laneway called Sussex Lane signalled the beginning of a new phase in how we spend our evenings, its perhaps time to reflect, take stock of that journey.
